Today, I mopped five rooms before vacuuming them.
Anyone who knows anything about cleaning a house just cringed at that. Rightfully so. I have boy children and don’t vacuum as often as I ought. For those who are less familiar with cleaning, imagine the debris that was pushed around in the mop water.
In my defense, I had a pretty good reason. Frodo, our 15-year-old heeler mix, is incontinent. He went through 3 or 4 cloth diapers before lunch. That means there’s urine somewhere. Also, while I was out, he bashed down the baby gate that kept him in the laundry room and had the run of the house. I saw a few areas of dribbles and puddles and, after drying them, went for the mop. It was just too much surface area for paper towels and disinfectant.
But the debris.
As I mopped and cringed over getting things out of order, I remembered what God has been telling me lately.
I have four humungous prayer requests in with God, and He is saying the same thing about all four: WAIT.
Here are two of the instances where He has made it clear:
Isaiah 30:18 says, “So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.”
Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; yea, wait for the LORD!”
While I mopped, the Holy Spirit whispered, “See what happens when you get things out of order? Cleaning and disinfecting the urine is not inherently bad. But it’s better to do things in the proper order. When our Father says to wait, he means WAIT. Wait first. The rest will come.”
I am a person of action. I really have trouble doing nothing when there’s a problem. Just like today when I jumped straight into mopping instead of handling the debris first. I choose to do good things, but what I truly want is to do what’s BEST and not just what’s good.
God knows this about me, and He’s reminding me to hold my horses, to get things in proper order.
So I wait.
But I wait on Him, and it’s a good place to be.

Great post, Kris! The Lord has been teaching me to wait, too, and I confess, I’m really bad at it. Still, He’s been gracious about my complaining, which is like your debris. I need to clean it up if I’m going to trust God, even in the waiting. Praying for Frodo and for you.

Thanks, especially for the prayer. I’m terrible at waiting, but God keeps giving me the message almost daily. And there’s amazing peace to be had in this holding room. He’s sitting in here with me. I’m saying a prayer for your wait time, too!
